The TGV Paris-Barcelona is a competitive alternative: about 6h30 city centre to city centre, often more expensive than low-cost flights but without airport transfers and baggage restrictions.
All Paris-Barcelona flights land at Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), 15 km from the centre. The airport has two terminals connected by a free shuttle.
To reach the centre: Aerobus (35 min to Plaça Catalunya, €6.75), Metro line 9 Sud (30 min to Zona Universitària), R2 Nord train (25 min to Passeig de Gràcia, €2.40) or taxi (€30-35 fixed to the centre).
Book 6 to 10 weeks ahead for direct flights. Prices spike over Easter, May bank holidays, La Mercè (September) and the Mobile World Congress (February-March).
Outside those periods, €39-59 return fares are common in January, February and November. Tuesday and Wednesday departures are usually cheapest.
Air France and Iberia typically include a 10-12 kg cabin bag + personal item. Vueling, easyJet and Transavia basic fares usually only allow a small under-seat bag. Large cabin bags cost €15-25 per leg and checked luggage €25-45 per leg.
